"Whilst completing a trial of Hemispheres Think Write Interactive Handwriting Programme, I noticed that my Year 2 class were much more engaged with their learning. The children enjoyed viewing the animals in a more interactive way and consequently I felt like they were able to recall them more easily throughout our sessions. Once children are familiar with the formation of the single letters and their sounds the natural progression is to move onto the association between the two and three letter phonemes and learning to join the letters together using the animal starting shapes.  Building the association between the animal characters, their starting shapes and how to apply them to joining two and three letters together is a natural development for all children. This workbook has been developed to support this level of learning in children, helping to build the association between phonetic sounds, letter formation using the cognitive framework of the Hemispheres Think Write Handwriting Programme.

With the ever increasing move towards children using cursive writing by the end of Key Stage 1, Hemispheres Think Write is excited to announce that from September 2016, we will be,  in partnership with Jordans Primary School,  carrying out a pilot study to look at the impact of the Think Write handwriting programme on the quality of the children's handwriting, over a 6 month period. 

We know from previous studies that the Think Write can and does make a statistical difference in the quality of children's handwriting.  However, we want to show that the same level of progress can be achieve in any school. 

Good teaching of handwriting, needs to include fun and interactive activities to engage children in all levels of learning.  Structured handwriting programmes need to challenge all aspects of handwriting including, cognition, visual spatial planning as well as motor skills and copying. 

Hemispheres believes that when children are fully engaged, understand the rules that underpin letter formation, spatial position, size and height they are empowered with the knowledge to learn the cursive writing script.  The Think Write Cursive Handwriting Programme embodies all of these aspects and primarily teaches children the rules through games, activities and interactive experiences. 

We look forward to confirming that the Hemispheres Think Write Cursive handwriting programme can produce excellent results in terms children's handwriting.

At the recent NASEN conference in Leeds, Hemispheres Think Write was asked by a member of the National Handwriting Association if they were able to review the programme independently as a tool for helping children overcome problems they are having learning to write. 

The feedback we have had so far is that the resources were used with one little boy who loved the animals.

The trial will continue for the rest of this year before a review will be written close to December 2016.

Exhibiting at the Think Write Handwriting Programme at the IAP Head Conference has enhanced the national and the international awareness of the programme to schools.  The Think Write is a strong supportive programem for teaching cursive handwriting correclty from the start. 

Following the success of Think Write at Iapps Pre-Prep Conference, we are pleased to share with you the article Shelley wrote for the Pre-Prep Publication on the benefits of teaching cursive handwriting from the beginning in schools.  Hemispehres Think Write is a fantastic programme to help structure cursive teaching in schools. 

To help us all understand the benefits that can be achieved through teaching cursive writing, compared to printing and keyboard skills, Shelley will be writing articles published each month on the website.

The National IAPS delegates were excited and very interested in the Think Write seeing immediately the impact it could have on their pupils. The presentation was very well recieved and generated a lot of discussion and food for thought as to whether schools should use cursive writing from Reception.  Following the presentation, delegates had the opportunity to attend one out of four workshops run by Shelley, where they had the opportunity to learn about the neurological development of the 'tripod' grasp, how to adapt the Hemispheres Think Write programme for older children and the integration of Hemispheres Think Write programme with phonetic teaching.

Shelley has been asked to present the Hemispheres Think Write Handwriting Programme at the IAPS Head of Pre-prep Conference in March 2015. Please come and visit the stall, attend a workshop or listen to the lecture whilst you are there, so you can see why there is a growing level of interest in the programme.

I wanted to share with you the new development.  To help bring the animals to life for young children we are working towards developing soft toys which children can engage with.  Harriet is the first one to be made, and here replique montres she is with her bucket full of letters.

It was lovely to to be asked to talk at Merlin School, presenting the Hemispheres Think Write to all the teachers, parents and heads of local Nursery Schools.  It is great to be part of this type of collaborative working, a real focus on children and their needs.  Looking forward to going back to present a talk to parents in February.

Helping young boys learn to write is a challenge, and the Think Write is one way of helping them learn the skills for writing, whilst having fun!

Brantridge is a school that focuses on helping young boys who experience more challenge in their learning than most, and Hemispheres is very proud of being part of the programme. 

This week we introduced the Think Write with the youngest pupils and are excited about their interest in the games and activities.

Carolyn Wilson, Head of Learning Support is a strong supporter of the work Hemispheres offers children who need a little extra help.  Cranleigh have supported the use of the HTW within school, for 2 years and acknowledges the improvements Hemispheres can make. 

Holme Grange School have booked a full training day for staff in pre-prep in January 2015 to begin using the Hemispheres Think Write in class and in learning support.

Keen to adopt a programme that supports the teaching of joined up writing, Merlin School has expressed a keen interest in using the Hemispheres Think Write from January 2015.  Kate Prest, HeadMistress was improessed with the programme and has booked a full school inservice to explore the possibility further. 

Twyford Pre-Prep School, Winchester are enetering their third year using the Hemispheres Think Write.  They have been thrilled with the results they have seen and feel the programme has help improved the quality of the handwriting in children between Reception and Year 2.

Yateley Manor School have since adopted the Hemispheres Think Write in Pre-prep after particiapting in the initial pilot study. The first meeting after implementing the programme took place last week, and the teachers are enthusiastic about the enjoyment children are having, and are looking forward to starting letter formation this week.

St Ronan's School enter their second year using the programme.

Hemispheres is thrilled to have completed the HTW handwriting programme training for the learning support staff at Beechwood Primary School. A proactive LS department completed the programme so they could offer a structured apporach to helping children who need extra help learning to write.

At the request of parents on the Island, Shelley completed a successful training day attended by teachers, parents and therapists who have a keen interest in improving handwriting in Gibraltar. 

Hal Grove School, Surrey introduced the Hemispheres Think Write into the curriuclum of Pre-Prep in January 2014.  The programme has been a success and the children have shown good imrpovements in their handwriting.
